Project Description

Santa Fe College Student Exhibition Poster 2018
POSTER DESIGN
POSTER DESIGN

Goal:
Create the student exhibition poster for Sante Fe College’s Graphic Design & Digital Media Technology Department using the theme exploration.

Execution:
I approached the theme of exploration with the idea of exemplifying the exploratory process both within graphic design, and within academia. Every element on the poster is a potential place for that element to go. The circles, the repetition of elements in different places, alignments, colors, textures, etc. are all elements within the design that the designer and the student ask themselves: should this go here? Should this be this color? Should I rotate this element? Should I have a gradient? Should I add texture? This is one way that the poster exemplifies the theme of exploration.

The second way that the poster shows exploration is through the symbolism of the birds as students. The student starts the program not knowing how to see all the elements of design. As the student progresses through the program he or she gains perspective, as shown by the bird being rotated around the frame. In the end, the student and the class together are progressing towards this ability to deconstruct and create new designs, which is symbolized by the circle in the middle.

I took inspiration from Magdiel Lopez’s poster-a-day challenge as well as ultraviolet color themes.
