Project Description

POSTER CAMPAIGN
POSTER CAMPAIGN

Goal:
Create a series of three posters for the social issue discrimination.

Process:
I decided to focus on gender stereotypes and how they can affect children because of a book I had read called “Meeting at the Crossroads.” It follows the psychological journey of girls from childhood through adolescence and specifically discusses the way in which girls internalize the words and expectations of the adults in their lives, especially words that are used repeatedly in association with the children. For girls, this is often the phrase “be nice.” These girls would silence themselves and their peers because of internalizing social expectations. For boys this process happens at a slightly younger age with different words. I wanted to include both boys and girls, as gender stereotyping affects both.

Solution:
My final posters are the words used to create and form gender stereotypes in the form of shadowy monsters. Since these words are often innocent by themselves, I wanted to show how when used together and repeatedly in the presence of children, those words become something much worse. The adults (parents) are fighting against the monsters by keeping them away from the children.
